Throughout this academic year, for the “Cultura i Valors Ètics” subject in 3rd ESO,
we have been working on the biography of relevant personalities in the fields
of human rights, such as Malala Yousafzai
and Dr. Martin Luther King.
In the case of Malala Yousafzai, students were
proposed different activities related to her life and her situation and they
could also watch and work on the speech Malala Yousafzai gave at the United
Nations in July 2013.
In the case of Martin Luther King, students listened to the song composed by
U2 (“In the Name of Love”) in which they
talk about his assassination on April 4th 1968. They could also watch and work on the
speech Martin Luther King gave on the
steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. -in August 1963- and before 250,000 people. In this speech, Martin Luther King pronounced
the famous “I Have a Dream...” sentence.
After these activities, students watched the film “The Help”
(in English) in which the problem of racial segregation is exposed and then completed a file about the film.
